Booking business class flight redemptions is harder than the internet makes it seem

The internet makes it seem like booking business class for 25,000 points and $12 is normal. It’s not so easy.

Why it’s hard to find business class deals:

  1. Limited seats are released in advance. Airlines make most of their money on business class seats. They only release a handful of business class seats bookable with points in advance.

  2. You don’t live in a hub. Many of the cheap business class redemptions you see online depart or arrive in a major city or airline hub.

  3. Business class is competitive. When airlines release business class redemptions, they are booked quickly. Within minutes, a redemption could no longer be there (especially a year in advance).

How to score business class flights with points:

  1. Book a year in advance or last minute. The best business class redemptions are typically released 330-360 days in advance or 1-14 days before a flight.

  2. Fly in or out of a hub. Major airports have better business class flight deals. If you need to depart or arrive at a smaller airport, consider booking the flights as separate legs.

  3. Be flexible. Plan a trip around the airline or city with the best flight redemptions. This means being flexible with your dates also.

My favorite tool for finding last-minute business class redemptions is Seats.aero

Seats.aero is free to use for flights departing within 60 days. To unlock searches further out, a Pro membership is required and costs $9.99/month.
