Sign your kids up for an airline rewards account

When I turned 18, my parents handed me over a Delta Skymiles account full of airlines miles.

When I turned 2, and they started having to buy me my own seat, they signed me up for my own airline reward accounts. They would use these miles to book airline tickets through my childhood (was this actually the start of Let’s Wander Wiser?!), but eventually just gave me the account with all of the points.

Once you start paying for a seat for your children, they officially can have their own airline miles account.

Now, every time I call Delta, they tell me thanks for being a Skymiles member for 29 years.

What better way to send your kid into the real world, than with an airline rewards account full of points?

After a little research, I also found out that JetBlue TrueBlue, United MileagePlus, and Frontier Miles allow families to combine individual member balances into a single shared pool, making it easier to redeem rewards for family travel. Additionally, some airlines will not let miles expire until the child turns 18, allowing you to save the points up.
